Standing Ovation!

All the TIME (a coaching institute for MBA entrance exam) students who got admits into the IIMs had been invited to TIME Super Achiever's Meet on May 15th in Hyd. It was in Ravindra Bharati and we were invited on the stage to talk about our experiences and to talk something abt TIME and as well motivate the aspirants of CAT this year.

A huge crowd had gathered. The auditorium, quite famous in Hyd, was jam-packed. There were about 1000+ people gathered there to listen to the achievers!! The crowd gave us a standing ovation when all of us had gathered on the stage! Man, it was an amazing as well as an embarassing moment...I dont understand what was the need of a standing ovation by such a huge crowd...All of us (abt 22 of the guys on-stage) had to address the crowd. When it was my turn, I told the crowd what I felt when they gave us the ovation. I mean c'mon yaar, we aint any demi-gods. We are as normal as anyone sitting out there except that we went through the grind and worked hard for about 6-8 months or so because of which we are where we are..thats all, nothing less nothing more..

Ya, what I wanted to say was why do people praise someone so much...I mean praise a guy whose done really something great not a person whose got through an institute...Agreed that the institute is one the top 3 in India but still yaar..praise a guy whose started a company and creating jobs for many others, prasie the person whose working for an NGO, praise the guy whose working tirelessly for the poor and fighting for their rights and upliftment or for that matter, praise the CAT topper and not the others...The problem with our society is that ehry praise someone which gets into the head of the person praised and then the society blames that very person saying that that guy/girl has ego problem and is very proud...Well, who got that pride in that person in the first place? Its the society which does that. Anyways, this is a kind of a cycle out of which there seems to be no escape for anyone..

Not everything aspect of life requires such critical observations. Take it in your stride as it comes. People who crave for attention may appreciate the experience of getting praised. It is not that you have been praised for nothing. Standing ovation, for some, may have been the most thrilling experience in their lives. It might just light the spark of motivation for you to go much ahead in life and to prepare you mentally for further grind, resulting in greater results and could get you more of those Standing Ovations . One must learn to take roses and brick-bats with the humility and not let them affect your mind more than what it needs.

I aggree with you that , getting a standing ovation must've seemed like an over-do ,that too from such a big crowd. So long as your feet are firm on the ground and you know what is truly laudatory for you in life , you will not yield to it in a hedonistic manner ,and deal with it in the right manner, which is what you've done.
